"Universal Forum of Cultures" Event Site

At the Forum site the exhibits are arranged according to the three core themes including: cultural diversity, sustainable development and conditions for peace.

The amphitheater in the background of this picture serves
two major purposes at the Universal Forum of Cultures.

1) It provides shade for numerous events and activities at the Forum.

2) The amphitheater is constructed of solar panels that provide power to the the Forum.

The Solar Power Plant / Amphitheater was larger than a football field.
It was a fascinating piece of modern architecture to view from any angle.

This is one of the numerous common areas at the Forum

Children's Play Area's

The Forum had several large screens that broadcast live
the days dialogs, concerts and artistic events.

International acts appearing at the Forum during it's five month
run included: Sting, Bob Dylan, BB King ...

Warriors of Xi 'an

This exhibition was most impressive. First we were invited to watch a movie about history of the Terra Cotta soldiers. When the film was over the screen was raised to reveal the exhibit in the connecting room.

The exhibition room was lined with mirrors lined the room creating an infinite look as if thousands of the Warriors were in the room with us.

There were no cameras allowed in the exhibit but we were happy to have our pictures taken with the giant banners that lined the exhibit building.

Construction of the World's largest
Mandala for World Peace

The Forum also had events located in other venues in the city. This World Peace Mandala was being created in a tent located on the Rambla de Santa Monica. Over the course of 20 days six Buddhist Monks from India were working in shifts to complete the Mandala.

Merchandising at the Forum was at a minimum. It is the first major event we have ever attended that commerce was not the main focus on the public once they were inside the event gates.

We found one gift shop and
a natural food store that sold
Forum licensed merchandise.

The were server al ethnic food
booths and all of the refuse at
the event was recycled. You paid
an extra .50 Euro for you pop and
you received a GREEN cup to take
with you and reuse

Recycle here!

Entertainment around the Forum grounds included parades, trapeze
acts and unusual artworks made from recycled objects.

(landfill) Store toys.

Body Art

This exhibit outlined how throughout civilization (body art) piercing or tattooing
have been apart of many of the worlds cultures old and new.

Exhibits of Everyday Objects
Explored Our Wants Verses Our Needs.

Our Planet Our Future

By far the most touching exhibit was a exhibit of the Universe. It featured the most beautiful star called Earth. You walked into a dark room and found yourself standing there lost in the most profound thoughts. It made you want to listen more careful to her call.

The worlds population, date & time are constantly
changing in this display.

55 gallon oil drums were the framework of this exhibit.
The drums lined the walls of the room. Each section had information regarding our world.

This exhibit is about cities around the world. It included information a about their geography and populations

Seattle, Washington was one of the featured cities with a
population of 2.9 million people.
