for peace education and promotes the history of
the Peace Arch.

Sculpture Exhibit Expansion

In early 2000, the USCPAA submitted a Exhibition Expansion Proposal to BC Parks. It was not approved by BC Parks. It has always been the intent of the USCPAA to have the annual exhibition include the placement of artworks on both sides of the boundary.

An annual 152 day Sculpture Exhibition highlighting the works of Canadian and American Artists in an event that brings together the natural beauty of the International Peace Arch Park and a variety of juried artworks. This free public art exhibit is further amplified by an annual weekend festive activities throughout the summer.

Each provides an atmosphere of reflection, heightened appreciation of the Peace Arch and art in a natural setting. It also gives visitors of all ages a truly cross-cultural experience. The popularity of these several events has given the Association encouragement to expand activities to include the adjoining property in the British Columbia section of the International Park.

Such an expansion would allow both a larger exhibit as well as other collateral events enhancing the cultural richness therein. As an economic development stimulus, this enlargement would become an important part of the tourism plans of the cities of Blaine and White Rock-South Surrey.

We believe that artworks placed in the park bring meanings to the Arch. And in return the Arch brings meaning to the art. Peace is our universal need, Art is our universal language.

In the fall of 2005 the association is submitting another exhibition expansion proposal to BC Parks. We would love to hear from you. Do you support the installation of artworks on both sides of the international park?

Peace Arch Interpretive Center

The association has long term goals for the international park including the establishment of a Peace Arch Interpretive Center. The Interpretive Center would host educational programs for American & Canadian school children during the winter months and serve tourists during the summer months.

Interpretive Center Mission Statement:

"We will develop the Peace Arch Interpretive Center in order to foster an appreciation, and understanding of the unique heritage of Peace between the United States and Canada, for the citizens of the both countries, and the diverse audiences that travel across the international boundary. The Interpretive Center will achieve its mission through annual events, exhibits, educational programs, collections, publications, and outreach programs, all of which will be designed to serve engage and enrich, and inspire the citizens of both countries and the world."
