The information Below is information from past meetings newspaper articles posted on our web site regarding the US and Canadian redevelopment projects:

Peace Arch Port of Entry Redevelopment Project Background 1999 ~ Present

In 1999, the United States Customs (General Services Administration) and Canada Customs (Canada Border Services Agency) announced plans to build new border facilities adjacent to Peace Arch International Park.

Both projects are currently underway with redevelopment construction beginning on the Canadian side of the park in early 2006. Since there are new photos and information available on the redevelopment we are creating two separate web pages, one is for the USA project the other for the Canadian.

Construction has been underway since last summer on the Canadian Border Services Redevelopment Project. To see current project information and pictures the Canadian Redevelopment Project Click Here...

In April of 2001, the GSA held a meeting and shared with the public plans for the Peace Arch Border Crossing redevelopment. These plan has a very negative affect on the park by destroying several acres of park land.

The first meeting since the April 2001, meeting was held November 2, and 30th in Blaine. At this meeting the GSA presented all new design plans for the border crossing. These plans are based on post 911 requirements placed on the involved agencies.

Below you will find designs A, B & D. The public was not shown Option C at the meeting. We were told that Option C had been scrapped because it has been deemed unfeasible therefore it was unnecessary to show us the plan.

Public comments are needed to assure the parks protection. We are all aware of the BUZZ WORDS of Homeland Security. We need to make the Government aware that the loss of any park land is unacceptable and that there are other options for development available to them including expanding to the west.

A copy of the redevelopment plans, "frequently asked questions and answers" along with public comments sheets are available for public viewing in the Blaine Public Library reference section.

We urge members of the community and businesses, in Canada and the U.S. to take the time to familiarize themselves with the plans and submit their written comment to the GSA as a part of the public scoping process through December 31, 2004.
